MEET VERITY OF‘ THE WIDE WELLY’ COMPANY BOOTS THAT FIT, SERVICE THAT STICKS.

Verity, a Yorkshire lass, is the matriarch of the family-run business based in Hoylake, designing and retailing a unique range of wellies that are comfortable, stylish— and practical too. But what makes their wellies different is that they are E-X-P-A-N-D-A-B-L-E.
Let’ s face it: most wellies feel tighter than a pair of Spanx at a buffet!
Their Wide Wellies are designed for those who need more room around the calf, but still require support at the ankle and a snug foot fit. A boot that is flexible, fresh, fun, functional, and fashionable!
If you’ ve ever attempted to squeeze your legs into narrow boots, you know the struggle is real. After years of watching women wrestle with too-tight boots, Verity— having observed the wide-calf market for a while— decided enough was enough. She knew there had to be more to life than spending twenty minutes doing the“ welly wiggle dance” every time you wanted to leave the house.
Behold … in 2014, The Wide Welly Company was born. Finally, wellies for the rest of us!
Verity’ s got the inside scoop on wellies— quite literally! Living by the beach, she’ s in her wellies more than she’ s in her slippers( and that’ s saying something). Whether she’ s strolling along the sand with her dogs or gardening in the drizzle, Verity knows a thing or two about what makes a splendid pair of boots.
Now, let’ s talk rubber.
Our Wide Wellies are made with 50 % natural rubber content— a lot more than your typical high street wellies. Why? Because we believe your wellies should last longer than the average British summer.
Verity’ s background is in manufacturing( not wellies!) and she’ s fascinated by quality control. Over the years, she’ s studied rubber and welly creation, constantly developing and refining the products.
Wellies are made by hand— well, almost a hundred pairs of hands. Because our wellies feature an added gusset and adjustable strap, there’ s an incredible amount of preparation before we even hit the production line. The rubber may be rolled by machine, but it’ s all cut by hand, as are the fabric straps. Then the buckle attachments need to be constructed. And after that, the boots are assembled— it ' s a serious amount of effort and precision.
Verity typically travels to China for her production runs, and to say it’ s humbling to observe the factory workforce in action is an understatement. Watching your idea come to life is incredible!
As for the insoles— there are thousands of options out there. We learned early on that many customers replace our insoles with their own orthotics. But for those of you who don’ t have a preferred insole, we now include two insole options with every pair of wellies. The insole affects the comfort and fit— so you can decide which suits you best. And Verity is the mastermind behind every design. Whether it’ s a bright, fun pattern inspired by her home on The Wirral or a more understated look, she’ s got it covered. Every pair of wellies has a bit of Verity’ s personality in them. You’ ll find something to match your vibe— whether you’ re looking to turn heads, or you’ re more of an“ I just want dry feet” person.
We don’ t just stop at looks, though. Our boots are crafted with a single outer gusset. When we first launched, they had a double gusset— but we quickly discovered that the inner buckles snagged each other while walking. So the inner gusset was retired early!
But here’ s the game changer: We’ re the ONLY wellies in the country with a metal cam buckle. Once you adjust the side strap, it stays put— no more fiddling around with finicky clasps halfway through your walk!
You’ ll also find that our wellies are thicker than many other brands on the market.
At The Wide Welly Company, we’ re also fascinated by the science of it all. Did you know our feet are getting wider because we wear trainers more often? Verity’ s all about embracing that change and making sure we’ re ready for the future of wellies— wide, comfy, and fabulous.
Which is why we’ re currently developing a range of wellies with a wider foot fit.
After 10 years of designing and retailing Tall Wellies, Verity is unveiling her first collection of Ankle Wellies, arriving in late August. Unlike tall wellies, which are incredibly seasonal, ankle wellies are designed for year-round appeal, with a focus on urban versatility.
We think you’ ll be just as happy walking the dog in these as you will be wearing them to the pub for an evening with friends.
These wellies aren’ t just boots— they’ re a lifestyle. And it’ s one Verity wants to share with the whole of the UK. She’ s on a mission to build a nation of“ Welly- Wearing Wonderers,” one comfy calf at a time.
At the heart of it all, it’ s the people who keep us going. One thing Verity prides herself on is customer service. She loves it almost as much as she loves rubber! Product development is driven by customer feedback.
Customer service is non-negotiable— if a customer has something to say, we listen. Customer experience is real, and it matters. There’ s also nothing better than hearing how our wellies have brought a smile to someone’ s face— especially when they’ ve been battling with tight, uncomfortable boots for years.
Because we’ ve all got curves. And at The Wide Welly Company, we’ re here to bless & celebrate them!
