MEET ADAM PARTRIDGE AUCTIONEERS & VALUERS
Auctioneer and television personality Adam Partridge opened his Liverpool Saleroom on Jordan Street, in the heart of the Baltic Triangle in 2008.“ In expanding our business to this vibrant and energetic city, it was easy to see why she had been awarded Capital of Culture that year. I always felt a connection to the hundreds and thousands of people who had come before me, fuelled by aspiration and ambition, and made this mecca of business and creativity their home”, comments Adam. His established team combines their experience and specialist expertise to provide the best possible advice and service to everyone, from seasoned buyers and sellers to traders and first-time participants.
Liverpool boasts a rich and varied history, shaped by fashion, music, the arts, as well as pioneering visual technology and the capturing and recording of an ever-changing world. In 1897, the Lumière brothers filmed Liverpool which included what is believed to be the world’ s first tracking shot, taken from the Liverpool Overhead Railway, and today the numerous art galleries and museums have housed some incredible photographic exhibitions.
So popular is our Photographic and Scientific Instruments auction, it features twice on our yearly schedule and recent successes include a 1957 Leica Leitz Wetzler model M3 camera and 50mm Summicron lens, which sold for £ 1300, as well as a Gandolfi 4x5 mahogany plate camera with two lenses, selling to an international buyer for £ 680. We hope to see you at our Liverpool Saleroom on 1st & 2nd May for this years first Specialist Photographic Auction.
It is fair to say that Liverpool’ s impact on travel and trade was what planted her firmly on the map. The first of the Liverpool docks opened in 1715 and the city became a vital gateway for imports. By the 19th century, the“ New York of Europe” had risen to global importance, its wealth exceeding that of London, with 40 % of the world’ s entire trade passing through Liverpool and the docks Custom House being the single largest contributor to the British Exchequer, so naturally the auction calendar at The Liverpool Saleroom would be incomplete without the inclusion of a Militaria and Maritime sale, which will take place on 5th & 6th June 2025.
Highlights from recent auctions include a Tuscan China tea set, correctly identified as rare and of international interest by our valuer from the inclusion of the Cunard White Star Line mark. It sold for £ 12,600, highlighting that expert knowledge is key to achieving the best results. Also, a Liverpool Shipping Trade account book, dating to 1765-1772, achieved £ 920, proving that the nautical connection to the city is still fascinating and profitable, to both vendors and buyers.
The saleroom is looking forward to an exciting 2025, with eight further auctions scheduled across the year, with Toys, Wine & Spirits, Photographic, Silver, Jewellery, Watches, Coins, Furniture and Fine Art, all featuring on our calendar.
