danger . Eventually , Aaron and I were reunited , and the euphoria of having reached the top of the world came flooding back , mixed with immense relief . The next day , our team descended all the way to Advanced Base Camp ( ABC ), where we could finally reflect on our adventure to the top of the world . We celebrated with our first beer in six months , savouring the moment . Looking back , it was a journey filled with peril and triumph , reminding us of the sheer power and beauty of the mountains .
Preparation and recovery with AIM Health Hoylake During their training and recovery for Everest , Paul and Aaron used a range of cutting-edge treatments now widely adopted by elite athletes across the country . These techniques were instrumental in helping Aaron and I fulfil our dream .
Cryotherapy was a key part of their recovery regimen . Exposing their bodies to -80 degrees Celsius for three-minute bursts reduced muscle soreness and helped alleviate Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness ( DOMS ). It significantly decreased inflammation , making it perfect for recovering from the intense outdoor training sessions on Snowdon .
Red Light Therapy ( Photo biomodulation PBM ) involved exposure to concentrated natural light , which enhanced energy production at a cellular level in the mitochondria . This therapy not only aided recovery from carrying a 30kg backpack up the hills of Snowdonia but also promoted significant gains in strength , speed , and endurance . Studies on elite athletes have demonstrated these benefits , and I felt a noticeable improvement in my performance .
Hyperbaric Oxygen and Hydrogen Therapy ( HBOT ) was another crucial treatment . This involved delivering oxygen and molecular hydrogen in a pressurized chamber , enhancing oxygen delivery to muscles and organs , and boosting energy production . It reduced inflammation and sped up recovery from heavy leg workouts in the gym . Additionally , it improved the pairs sleep , which is the foundation of all physical performance and recovery .
Compression Therapy used pneumatic compression to massage tissues , improve blood circulation , reduce swelling , remove toxins , and promote lymphatic drainage . Widely used by top athletes , including pro cyclists and Premier League football players , this therapy was fantastic for relieving sore legs after big mountain days .
Rebalance Impulse Therapy was a game-changer for Paul . It utilizes applied neuroscience through breathing and chromotherapy techniques to help engage the parasympathetic nervous system and lower brain waves from hectic Gamma to relaxed Alpha and Theta waves . This therapy greatly aided his visualization practices . During sessions , last thing at night , and first thing in the morning , Paul would focus on actually standing on top of Everest , mimicking that elation so every cell in his body could feel it . Top athletes like Djokovic , Olympic runner Keely Hodgkinson , and legendary swimmer Michael Phelps have spoken about the power of visualization and its impact on performance and attaining goals . “ For me , it instilled a deep sense of belief and readiness for the monumental challenge ahead ”.
Note : In summiting Everest , Paul and Aaron have raised an incredible £ 87,000 for Dementia UK .
