HOLLYWOOD BY A DIFFERENT NAME – PART 3
Martyn Best , our eclectic writer , and our inside man at Tranmere Rovers continues his Hollywood based theme .
Having written my last two articles about an aspect of Hollywood - the world of professional wrestling and a potential Hollywood influenced investment into Tranmere - let me now turn to the glitzy side and what better example than the recent Wirral Life Awards at the wonderful Titanic Hotel .
I can talk about this from a Tranmere perspective too , as it was with great pride that I accepted , along with my fellow Associate Directors , Liam Hanlon and Liam Quirk , the award for Outstanding Contribution to Tourism on the Wirral .
The rationale for this declared : The only professional football club on the Wirral , and living in the shadow of two great clubs , and literally so tonight with Everton ’ s adjacent new stadium near completion , Tranmere more than punch their weight .
They attract visitors from across the country for not only their 23 home league games and the occasional magical days of FA Cup glory , but also for the wide array of community focussed programmes supporting many diverse elements across the Wirral .
Who knows if they will soon be helping make the Wirral a tourist destination for Rhianna and ASAP Rocky , but for today , Tranmere are the very well deserved winners of our Outstanding Contribution to Tourism .
As I accepted the award , I was reminded of Rudyard Kipling ’ s famous words in his iconic poem IF :
“ If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster And treat those two impostors just the same “
as a few minutes earlier we had a football alert showing an 83rd goal had been scored by Cheltenham giving them the victory that evening .
And so we move on to the amazing Wirral Life Awards .
I must declare an interest in being one of the judges , and what a task that was ! There were so many impressive nominations , and I became incredulous at how many wonderful businesses there are on the Wirral . I obviously did not vote in one category ( see above ) but found it a monumental responsibility to help choose a winner - and hence why there was the occasional joint one .
There was certainly a major whiff of Hollywood on the night as you will see in the featured photographs elsewhere in this issue , and great praise to Si and Nicky for all their superb efforts in bringing the Wirral Life Awards back to life for the first time since Covid . wirrallife . com 23
