The original Silk Rd restaurant is situated in the very heart of the attractive and vibrant town of Heswall in Wirral .
It offers a mouth-watering selection of dishes from the Pacific to the Mediterranean . The menu combines fresh , simple ingredients with a genuine love for creating exquisite cuisine .
Seated by the window , it was a gloomy day outside but the bright , colourful and warm décor of the restaurant , soon warmed us up . As there was a small group of us having lunch , we decided to dine ‘ meze style ’ and ordered a selection of dishes from the menu .
Whilst perusing the wine menu , we ordered some nibbles : Thai Prawn Crackers and the Silk Road Platter . The platter consisted of pitta bread with hummus , tzatziki , olive tapenade and an Asian avocado dip . A great start to our experience !
So our food journey along the Silk Road begins :
Buttered Black Prawns - a king prawn stir-fry cooked south Indian style . A stunning dish with authentic flavours . We paired the dish with a bottle of Pulpo – made with Albarino grapes . The wine was bright , pale lemon in colour with hints of apple green ; fresh and fruity on the palate - perfect with seafood .
Beef Shin - with a lemon and herb potato cake served with a red wine jus and parsnip crisp . A rich , flavoursome dish , the beef was slow cooked to perfection .
Lamb Tagine - Lamb tender stew with aromatic moroccan flavours with almonds and pomegranates . The most tender lamb we ' ve had in years .
We paired this dish with a bottle of Montepulciano D ’ Abruzza - an hearty Italian wine , spicy and plummy .
Carbonara Tagliatelle – Tagliatelle tossed with a rich sauce of egg yolk , Pecorino Romano cheese . Crispy guanciale and freshly cracked black pepper . Lovely .
Chinese Belly Pork - slow cooked pork belly topped with sweet and spicy chilli sauce – very nice .
Salmon Orzo - Seared salmon served on warm orzo pasta , sundried tomatoes and feta . Yum !
Silk Rd Heswall is a great concept that brings to life an array of different and delicious dishes in a fun , lively atmosphere . High quality food , cooked and presented beautifully .
With such a variety of interesting recipes appealing to literally everyone ' s tastes , we can see why this place is loved by so many .

Pad Thai - stir fried noodles with egg , spring onions and bean sprouts – this was a generous portion and with a little kick of chilli . Lots of broccoli , cauliflower and carrot , very clean , healthy and tasty .
Caprese Salad - Ripened tomatoes , creamy mozzarella and fragrant basil drizzled with extra virgin oil . An all time classic and tasted so fresh .
Chicken Satay - Lovely and moist marinated chicken skewers served with a light peanut sauce .
Spinach , Pea and Ricotta Arancini - Crispy golden risotto balls filled with a blend of fresh spinach , sweet peas and creamy ricotta cheese served with a lemon dip . Full of flavour – you ' ve got to give these a go !
Chicken Soulvaki - Chicken in a greek marinade grilled and served with tzatiki and greek salad . Chicken was tender and succulent . Another substantial portion , very nicely done .
