Joe Symes and the Loving Kind , a band from Liverpool , take great pride in their ability to create catchy , memorable , and instantly appealing songs that cater to a wide range of people from all walks of life . Founded by Joe Symes and Colin White , the band came up with their name , " The Loving Kind ," after a suggestion from Colin , inspired by the R . E . M song " Get Up ." With the addition of bass player Alan Welsh , the band became a powerful and explosive trio , often described as sounding like a much larger group on stage .
Their self-titled debut album , released on their record label , Truly Independent Records , showcased their musical versatility with songs spanning various genres such as rock , psychedelic , easy listening , country , and movie soundtracks . The album received international acclaim , with two tracks appearing on the Charity Compilation Shoulder to Shoulder alongside renowned artists like Paul Weller , Ocean Colour Scene , and Noel Gallagher . Even Hollywood stars like Matthew Modine and Michael Keaton became fans of the band .
Following their debut album , the band released the energetic rockoriented single " Things Get Better ," which showcased their evolving sound and gave a glimpse into the direction of their second album . The single received significant recognition , being played during half-time at Liverpool Football Club ' s ground and featuring on BBC Introducing . Encouraged by the success , the band continued to record and perform , releasing the Acoustic Variations E . P and its sequel , showcasing their ability to translate their compositions from electric guitars to acoustic instruments .
Throughout their releases , Joe Symes and the Loving Kind gained major airplay and radio sessions not only in the UK but also in the US , Canada , and Australia . However , their true strength lies in live performances . They have played at notable venues and festivals across the UK , headlining Noel Gallagher ' s High-Flying Birds
After-Show Party , supporting bands like The Blockheads and Alt-J , and participating in significant events such as the Hillsborough Truth & Justice Concert .
In September 2018 , the band released their highly anticipated second album , " Phase II ," a ten-track rock classic that left listeners craving more . The album was produced in renowned studios such as Peter Gabriel ' s Solid State Logic Studios and Abbey Road in London . Like their previous releases , " Phase II " received airplay and garnered positive reviews and interviews from global publications and endorsements from celebrities in the entertainment industry .
After a break from live performances , the band started 2020 by working on a new 4-track E . P ., which was released in March 2022 . The E . P . gained attention , with the title track reaching number 8 in the national 365 Radio charts in the UK , surpassing wellknown acts like Florence and the Machine and Liam Gallagher . Additionally , Joe Symes and the Loving Kind have been featured in the Plug Inn books , documenting the history of Northwest music .
Currently , the band is finishing their third album , " Portmanteau ," set to be released in the first half of this year . They have already released a video for a track from the album called " It ' s All Too Late ," which can be viewed on their YouTube channel .
