French Martini
The French Martini is a classic sweet and fruity cocktail which tastes just as good as it looks . It is based on one of the simplest recipes ; base , modifier and fruit juice . These recipes rose in popularity during the prohibition era where the sweet juices and liqueurs were needed to mask the taste of the poorly made alcohol and have stuck around ever since .
Despite its name , the French Martini was created in Soho , New York at the Balthazar restaurant . It has been given its name by the use of Chambord ; a blackberry liqueur that has been produced in France since the 17th century . Additionally , during its creation in the 90 ’ s almost every cocktail that was served in the ‘ v ’ shaped glass was branded a martini , such as the Espresso Martini and Pornstar Martini .
At this time , Vodka had also gained a wide customer base and became the leading spirit used in most cocktails . Finally , the Pineapple juice is added to bring a sweet and fruity taste to the cocktail whilst also being used for the frothy and smooth texture .
Ingredients :
• 50ml Vodka
• 15ml Chambord
• 40ml Pineapple Juice
Method : Pour all ingredients into a Boston shaker and shake over ice . Double strain into a martini glass and serve with a slice of pineapple or with a raspberry on a cocktail stick .
Blue Lagoon
The Blue Lagoon is one of the most aesthetically pleasing cocktails there is , being a bright blue in colour and garnished with a sweet maraschino cherry on top . The drink gets its colour from the Blue Curacao ; a Caribbean liqueur made using the dried peel of the Lahara Citrus fruit which is then coloured blue . Thus , making it the perfect tropical drink to transport you away from the dreary British weather .
This cocktail is believed to have been created in the 1960 ’ s by Andy MacElhone in a New York style bar in Paris . The original recipe suggests the drink should be built in the glass and stirred but there are some variations of the drink where crushed ice is used to blend into a frozen cocktail . However , the original method is much quicker and tastes just as good .
Ingredients :
• 30ml Vodka
• 30ml Blue Curacao
• Top with Lemonade
Method : Pour the Vodka and Blue Curacao into a tall hurricane glass over ice and stir . Next pour the lemonade over the top until full and stir again . Serve with a maraschino cherry on top .
