WIRRAL LIFE TALKS TO JONATHAN HAYLEY , REGIONAL PARTNER FOR LEADING LIVE-IN-CARE PROVIDER , PROMEDICA24 WIRRAL .
When you need to consider full-time care , you may think that your only choice is to uproot your life , and move into a care home . This is not the case . There is another option ; Live-in care from a specialist agency like Promedica24 Wirral .
What ’ s been happening since last month ? There are certain times of year when things can get really busy and early summer is one of them . Its holiday season and if relatives are a bit concerned about leaving mum or dad on their own while they go away they often try to arrange respite care . Traditionally people associate respite care with care homes and if mum or dad has been a bit ( or very !) reluctant then understandably these conversations can get left to the last minute . So this year in June we have launched some new service propositions including respite care . Respite care can be from as short as 1 week so perfect for that family holiday away and mum or dad get to stay at home which keeps them happy , with one to one dedicated care and support giving you complete peace of mind , and a well deserved rest of course !
There are some new propositions as well as respite care ? At Promedica24 we are always striving to adapt to people ’ s individual circumstances and needs wherever we can . Not everyone is ready for full time care straight away . Family might want to look after mum or dad for a few days a week such as at weekends or they might be apprehensive about someone moving in full time straight away . To help with this we ’ ve launched our part-time care service so people can have live in care for only 4 days per week for example . We ’ ve had really positive response to this especially from families who want to support mum or dad by themselves over the weekend but have the security that they are fully taken care of , in their own home , during the week .
We are also looking to launch daytime only care soon so if there is no spare bedroom or if mum or dad doesn ’ t need any support overnight and our carer doesn ’ t need to be there for example . Everyone ’ s situation is specific so we will always look at different ways to meet people ’ s support needs including creating bespoke care package of course with the primary consideration of it being safe .
How quickly can you arrange care if we ’ ve left it to the last minute ? This happens more than you might imagine for some of the reasons mentioned above . I will talk more about our recruitment model another time but suffice to say we have an incredibly robust recruitment model which means we ’ ve always been able to start care quickly when we need to . Obviously the more time to arrange things the better but of course this cannot always be the case and we have the ability to put care in place within 3 days from care assessment if required . In case there are any health professionals reading this we do have a same day / 48 hour discharge to home arrangement process in place that is accessible to hospital discharge teams .
You must have lots of really interesting conversations all the time . Do any stand out over the past month ? Absolutely . There is something about the current generation of people in their 80s and 90s - they have such stories to tell and you can have such interesting and really enjoyable conversations . I received an enquiry recently from an elderly gentleman looking for some respite care for his wife so he can take a break . After discussing his wife ’ s support needs I asked where he would be going for his break and he said Abersoch where he ’ s owned a house since the 70 ’ s . We ’ ve been going to Abersoch with the family for over 10 years now and love it . It ’ s where I taught my son to sail and it is a beautiful place to go sailing ( when the sun is shining obviously :)) On the beach or in the town we just love the atmosphere there . It turns out this gentleman was also a sailor and we spent almost an hour just talking about the Llyn Peninsula and all his sailing stories around the area . This aspect of what we do I think is quite unique . It gives me the opportunity to engage with people and just talk about their lives . I ’ ve had so many conversations so many people over the years and I always come off calls like this with a smile on my face - especially at the time of writing when we ’ re about to go to Abersoch again !
