Bulletproof , confident , self-assured – these words may spring to mind when thinking of lawyers . It is how the media often portrays the profession , perpetuating lawyers as arrogant , pompous and quite frankly , a little full of themselves . It is no surprise that 74 % of clients have ‘ negative ’ emotions at the start of a legal matter ( Lawyer Monthly , 2021 ).

Justine Watkinson , Engagement Director : As a high-performing perfectionist , plenty keeps me awake at night ! Who does not want to be at the top of their game 100 % of the time ? No-one is superhuman so I focus on getting the pace right . The difference ? Clients who are comfortable picking up the phone with any question , knowing they have a sounding board for ideas or challenges .
Traditionally , delivering the law has been at arm ’ s length . We created # 1 of our Six New Standards : Wow Service , to address the frustrations people can feel with a file-by-file type of transactional service that ’ s lacking the personal touch .

Time vs Money
Justine : More and more clients are talking about how they can become resilient to cope with the pace of change . Yet history shows that from adversity comes innovation . Current concerns include financial security and achieving sustainable growth . So , I encourage clients to invest time building firm foundations – such as sorting legal terms and agreements – while planning for long term business health .
It can be challenging to jump from the legal issue at hand to thinking strategically about The Big Picture . I call this the ‘ Push & Pull ’. People can hunker down when stressed , so I provide practical and emotional support to guide them through the maze .
Richard : I believe that it takes real courage to pursue bold ambitions , and energy to stay focussed on what matters . Being netzero ready is now on the horizon and a recent Cone / Porter Novelli Survey found that 78 % of consumers would tell others to buy from a purpose-driven company .
