THE

MOUSE AT BRIMSTAGE by Si Hall & Jonathan Hayley

Welcome to the Mouse at Brimstage . If you ' ve not been in a while , you really should make it a priority visit .
This is a very different Mouse . A fresh and modernised Mouse - yet keeping faith with the traditional meals that are so popular . The new punchy dishes are a wonderful new addition and have been introduced as an alternative to their renowned bigger satisfying meals .
Looking around , more than half the tables that are in here are opting for the lovely new small plates menu , so that ' s what we went for too , seduced by the sights and aromas floating past us . Several of which - inspired by Dani and Jo ' s travels - we ' ve not come across before , especially on a Wirral restaurant menu , thoughtful , creative and seriously tasty .
We opted for 6 ( 3 each is more than enough as for ' small plates ' they we ' re surprisingly substantial ).
All these changes coincide with extended hours , new branding , new website on the way , extension of ( the already lovely ) outdoor terrace , a diary full of events and a bookings diary full to bursting ! “ Our events have really taken off ,” General Manager Joanna Jones tells us , “ The chapel is booked a lot for weddings coming up obviously , but Dani and I started to think outside the box and doing a wide range of events in both the chapel and the conservatory … dining experiences , murder mystery , book signings , meet the author Q + A sessions … we are really open to all sorts . We had a masquerade party in the chapel recently with a DJ and people could only enter with a password !”
Excellent ! Well done team . Very exciting times ahead . Booking advised on 0151 342 5382 www . themouseatbrimstage . co . uk
1 : Tomato Bruschetta with fresh basil on toasted ciabatta .
2 : Homemade Hummus ( ve ) with cumin oil , lemon , coriander and pomegranate . Served with seasoned pitta bread .
3 : Goats cheese , courgette and pea fritter , with a beetroot creme fraiche .
4 : Battered Cauliflower Wings ( ve ) Tossed in hot sauce , vegan ranch , topped with toasted almonds , coriander , nigella seeds and pomegranate .
5 : Onion Petals ( ve ) Seasoned with salt and pepper with a garlic aioli .
6 : One from the new Flatbread menu - Lamb Kofta ( this is huge )... Lamb , rocket , mint yogurt , coriander , nigella seeds and pomegranate .
We were absolutely rammed after this ( not so ) little lot , super fresh , you can taste and see the thought that ' s gone into their new ideas . Wish we had the rest of the day off to squeeze in some of the others . We asked some other diners about the small dishes they opted for , to obviously be told they were equally delicious .
Given that there is no public transport to this venue ; not even a bus stop nearby - I ’ m always somewhat pleasantly surprised and delighted at just how busy they are , it ' s a beautiful place . And cocktails during lunch on a Tuesday ? Don ’ t mind if I do !
The menu is not the only change taking place at The Mouse here . New manager , Joanna has introduced a new cocktail menu that she has created ; three brunch cocktails ( Bloody Mary , a Mimosa and a Cherry Tart ) and an elaborate full cocktail menu for later in the day . After sampling the chocolate espresso martini and the old fashioned , the only thing I can say is that I ’ m a little heartbroken to have brought the car today .
