MONT BLANC OF IRBY by Si Hall

The intimate new restaurant Le Mont Blanc set in the heart of Irby is a one-of-a-kind culinary establishment with a menu inspired by the idea of simple and honest cooking . Very popular with locals and visitors from further afield .
Started in 2022 , owner Samantha and Head Chef Pat developed a unique and interesting dining experience focussing on using fresh and sustainable ingredients ( supporting local suppliers wherever possible ) to take you on a European Cuisine journey quite like no other .
From their own imaginative twist on classic recipes to thoughtful new-age kitchen adventures , each dish reflects their passion for high quality food presented within a simple yet elegant , old school and charming environment ( white table cloths , candles , etc ).
Upon meeting the charismatic hosts Samantha , Manager Ben and Head Chef Pat , you get the idea that an interview with Samantha would resemble more of a casting , to find only the brightest crew to deliver their culinary ideas .
And so we begin ...
Roasted French Trimmed Three Bone Rack of Welsh Lamb . Served with freshly minted Mashed Potatoes , a Raspberry & Mint Jus , Tender Stem Broccoli and Vichy Carrots . Beautifully tender and pretty .
Switzerland-Style Chateaubriand with Whole Lobster . A 16oz Barrell-Cut Fillet with Whole Lobster Thermidor served with Pan-Fried Langoustine , Van Dyke Tomatoes , Jenga Fries , Gruyère Cheese Fondue , Wild Mushrooms , Asparagus , Spinach , Crispy Kale and Roasted New Potatoes . Stunning - both on the eyes and the palette , the ultimate sharing feast for two .
Pan Seared Duck Breast . Cooked medium , alongside Wilted Spinach , Dauphinoise Potatoes , and Roasted Root Vegetables drizzled with a Grand Marnier Orange Zest sauce . Excellent .
For dessert , Chef created a homemade baked New York Style Toffee Cheesecake . Served with Chantilly Cream and Salted Caramel Ice Cream .
My expectations were high for Le Mont Blanc based on hearing nothing but really good things from colleagues and readers alike , and the actual experience completely delivered . Everything is very carefully considered - to keep it simple .
In conclusion : When it comes to pricing in these ' interesting ' times for hospitality , it ' s very clear that these guys are really trying to give you a ' big bang for your buck ' on everything ( which is not easy ), especially the bar prices .
The food portions are really substantial . You will not be ' popping to the chippy on the way home '.
As Samantha quoted of her original vision " We want to deliver the best quality food and service we can , but without being greedy ." Which explains the excellent reviews and popularity .
