WHAT ’ S BEHIND THE DOORS ?
BY MARK BYERS OF OLIVER GREEN KITCHENS
It ’ s easy to focus on external looks , but just like people a kitchen is equally defined by what you see when you open the doors or the drawers , so in this article I want to present elements that are very much on trend when planning a new kitchen .
The Coffee / Tea Station If you like to indulge in different styles of coffee and tea then the last thing you want to do is have all your options squeezed into a wall cabinet which is sadly what most of us do . Rather than doing this another on trend solution is to elevate your tea and coffee collection to a dedicated unit . Imagine the theatre of offering your friend a tea or coffee and then wowing them with your hidden tea and coffee station marvel .
Larder Pantry These have become popular . If you have the space you will want one that ’ s extravagant . But if space is limited then a more modest larder is without question a great way to increase the storage in your kitchen . You can even go down to a thin larder of 30cm wide . It will still make you feel happy when you open it and find everything is easy to reach . Of course , if you are really lucky you may even be able to create a walk-in pantry . Remember those ?
Chopping Boards and Trays Possibly one of the most frustrating aspects of many kitchens is having somewhere to store chopping boards and trays . Rather than stuffing them into a cupboard or drawer why not make them an integral part of the kitchen cabinetry . Putting them fully on show is a practical solution that also adds a very individual look to the kitchen . And avoid thinking this only works in traditional style kitchens .
The Drinks Cabinet The restrictions we have all lived with over the last 23 months have resulted in us spending a lot more time at home . Our spirit collections have grown and with this a need for somewhere to store the bottles , and the glasses . A well organised drinks cabinet is not out of reach of most budgets . The fun is in what you put in the cabinet .
The Humble Cabinet We hang doors on them . We insert drawer boxes in them . What we choose as the finish of the inside of kitchen units is often not fully considered . Choice exists and it ’ s not limited to bland colours . Imagine a rich walnut finish greeting you every time you open your sage green doors . It ’ s a touch of luxury that costs no more than having a sage green inside . Be different , be bold .
