A Christmas Cocktail Party was held to celebrate the life of Wirral ' s diamond specialist , Les Foley , who recently passed away .
Les opened his family jewellers in Heswall in 1981 , after having dipped his toe in the water by way of pure chance several years earlier . Les had started off as a rep for Eveready batteries and during an overnight stay at a hotel , there just happened to be a jewellery sale on that evening . He was fascinated and swiftly spent his next month ’ s mortgage money on gold . As soon as he got home , he was at the pub and the golf club selling his wares and realised this was the career for him .
The business has gone from a small discount jewellers to a wholesale Diamond Merchants and the shop is a far cry from its humble beginnings with a gas fire , wooden shelves and that ‘ old fashioned ’ red velvet interior .
Sadly , Les didn ’ t get to see the 40th Anniversary celebrations of Hallmark in October this year held at the shop ; so in his memory , his daughter Jan decided to hold a Christmas Cocktail Party at her home . It was a great success with canapés , cocktails and chatter . He would have loved it and will be sadly missed by family , friends and customers .
