BIRKENHEAD SCHOOL WELCOMES NISHA KATONA
Birkenhead School was delighted to welcome chef , restaurateur and popular TV presenter , Nisha Katona , to the School in November in conjunction with Linghams Booksellers in Heswall .
Nisha was a delight to listen to during the evening and Nisha and David the dog thoroughly entertained the audience as she spoke about her work and inspirations for her latest book ' 30 minute Mowgli '. Nisha resides in Wirral and is the founder of the successful ‘ Mowgli Food ’ restaurant chain which started in Liverpool and is home to the Water Street and Bond Street restaurants .
Nisha spoke with passion during the evening about how she wants her restaurants to feel like a home from home , wants the food to be ‘ utterly addictive ’ and importantly for her staff to feel ‘ nourished , purposeful and fulfilled ’. After initially training and working as a barrister Nisha changed careers after identifying a gap in the market for the Mowgli offering and wanted to share her love of everyday Indian cooking with the public . Mowgli has now grown to 18 restaurants in 7 years , employing over 600 staff , and has aspirations to continue growing each year .
Recent additions to Mowgli are restaurants in Cheshire Oaks which opened in the summer and more recently in Charlotte Street , London . In recent weeks Nisha has also transformed her former barrister chambers in Liverpool into the new Mowgli headquarters . Many were in awe about how she manages to fit everything in to her working day as Nisha is currently filming the new series of ‘ The Great British Menu ’ with Tom Kerridge , Andi Oliver , and comedian Ed Gamble , as well as completing other projects .
The audience appeared to thoroughly enjoy the evening with a long queue of people waiting at the end to get their books signed by Nisha .
Nisha is the latest speaker who has visited the School as part of the School ’ s Inspiring Talks Series . In September the School welcomed Chef Rick Stein and previous guests have included BBC TV presenters and broadcasters , George Alagiah , Clare Balding and Kate Humble , health and fitness guru , Joe Wicks , author and former politician , Jeffrey Archer and First Admiral Sea Lord , Sir Philip Jones .
Birkenhead School is hosting assessment and taster days during January and February for families interested in discovering what more an independent education can offer .
