CHRISTMAS INSPIRATION
Whilst writing we have no idea what Christmas will look like this year , what we do know is that it will be different ! It has been a difficult year for us all but for some 2020 has been unimaginably tragic . dressing and lots of fur throws help after a night of wonder you do start to feel like a slab of beef in a deep freeze , but as a testament to clever design it ' s a must see !
Writing about interiors may seem trite , and at this time of year , in this particular year , even pointless , however interiors is what I know and I do believe that your interior world can affect your mood for better or for worse and we have previously covered how scent , colour and texture can enliven your space and change your mood but for this issue I would like to concentrate on inspirational spaces and hope that you are just taken away for a few minutes to somewhere different and splendid . So without further ado , here are a few of my inspirational interiors with a seasonal bent , enjoy !
Aman Jackson Hole
W Hotel in Zermatt , Switzerland
We love its laid back but luxurious style , the use of natural woods and stone elevate the ski theme to a new level . Sitting in the reception is like taking refuse in a temple of elegance . Steal the idea of mixing woods , combining American style with a hint of the orient .
The Pierre , New York
In some ways the W group have redesigned hotel design and educated us to what to expect in a hotel room , smaller rooms , with rain showers and pop art are all accredited to this group . Their foray in to the Alps was not well received by the other hoteliers in Zermatt but their guests love it . Sitting on their ski deck and sipping a mulled wine is one of my favourite things to do . Their use of lighting throughout the hotel is interesting and well thought out .
Fortnum and Mason , London , England
The Terrace in the Getty Suite at The Pierre is a slice of Manhattan heaven . At this time of year when the trees have turned and snow is on the ground it makes this already fantastic home away from home even more magical . The Pierre also has one of the best ballrooms in the city and it has been lovingly restored to its 1920 glamour status , a must see in New York if you love design and decadence .
The Ice Hotel , Sweden
A tribute to all things sculptural and icy ! This famous hotel ticks the boxes if you want to stay somewhere different and marvel at the design , my biggest tip is only book one night , although you are never cold , clever
Like Audrey Hepburn said in Breakfast at Tiffany ’ s ‘ nothing bad could happen here ’. Fortnum ’ s at Christmas reminds me of my childhood and I cannot start Christmas these days without a visit . There is something about the traditional setting , the smell of the old wooden floors and the obnoxious heat that gets my heart pumping to a Christmas tune . I am always inspired by the Christmas decorations which are world class and the fact that you are served by young Etonians , working for the holidays only enhances your experience .
I hope the above inspires you as much as they do me , and whatever your holidays look like this festive season , I wish you health , peace and prosperity !
