ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS …
BY PAUL ASKEW , CHEF PATRON OF THE ART SCHOOL RESTAURANT
... Is for you and your family to be happy , healthy and to enjoy your visit to us at the restaurant this December . The news that the Liverpool city region would enter Tier 2 , allowing many hospitality venues to reopen , was very welcome in what has been a hugely challenging year for the sector . We have all played our part in that , but now is not the time to be complacent and we must ensure we keep going with the aim of moving to Tier 1 and , with the news of a vaccine rolling out through December and into the New Year , look forward to a near as normal life returning at some stage in 2021 .
Your welfare is paramount to us and our front of house , kitchen brigade and housekeeping team will continue to work hard to ensure your visit to us is safe and our additional cleaning procedures are as unobtrusive as we can make them during the busy December period . We ’ re proud to be independently certified as a COVID-safe restaurant and will , as is our way , continue to go over and above what ’ s required to maintain safety and comfort . We have increased our opening times for December to meet demand and to ensure our team bubbles can continue to operate effectively . You will be pleased to know that we are also open on Wednesday 16th December for lunch and dinner service in addition to our usual Thursday to Sunday services , although we are filling up fast .
Weeks commencing the 21st and 28th December we will open Monday to Thursday inclusive . For the latest availability and to make a reservation please visit our online reservations service or call the Reservations Team .
Throughout November guests have had the opportunity to enjoy ‘ The Art School at Home ’ menus and I ’ ve been delighted with the very positive feedback on social media . Due to their popularity we ’ re producing a limited number of Art School at Home Christmas menus for collection on Christmas Eve . Full details can be found on our website .
For those of you who are not able to join us in the restaurant this will offer some very special dishes for you to enjoy in the safety and comfort of your own home .
Despite not being able to open in November the team still had things to celebrate following on from the national success of Edwin Kuk , our junior Sous Chef , who won the Young National Chef of The Year 2021 . We are delighted that the restaurant and another member of our team have also scooped prestigious awards .
The restaurant won Business Events Venue of the Year at the virtual Liverpool City Region Tourism Awards 2020 and our oft ’ unsung hero of the kitchen , KP Salvo Forcisi , won the much-coveted Staff Canteen Kitchen Porter of the Year award ! Both awards have been a real boost to the team & I and have helped brighten some very dark days .
We hope to brighten your Christmas and , as you would expect , I ’ ve been busy beavering away developing new treats and Christmas goodies for you to enjoy at home . The first is a new gin that I ’ ve developed with local brand Ginsmiths of Liverpool , a Pomelo gin ( a pomelo is similar in appearance to a large grapefruit , native to South and Southeast Asia ), that ’ s available from our Emporium and as part of a special Christmas Gin Hamper . There ’ s wine and food hampers and after such a difficult year , I ’ ve also created a range of special Champagne and caviar hampers too ! All are available for order on our website along with our ever-popular gift vouchers that can be redeemed against afternoon tea or a meal in the restaurant .
Let ’ s end the year on a high note and look forward to a very different 2021 .
My love and best wishes to you and yours . Chef Askew x
