WL IT WON’T BE LONELY THIS CHRISTMAS AT THE HAZELWELL AS CARE HOME PLANS LOTS OF FESTIVE FUN Residents at a Wirral care home will be enjoying a range of special lunches and Christmas events with those important to them to mark the festive season and spread goodwill to others this December. Staff at The Hazelwell, which offers residential, nursing, palliative and respite care, have organised lots of festival fun to make this season one to remember for everyone who lives at the home on Oldfield Road in Heswall. The Christmassy celebrations will begin with a special lunch on November 27 to bring together residents and visiting outside professionals, support staff and volunteers who do so much for them. The Hazelwell Care Home Manager Sue Ball, says it gives the home the chance to say a big ‘thank you’ for all their efforts. The Hazelwell team have also invited volunteers from the YMCA Wirral in Birkenhead to attend the lunch as the home supports the homeless charity with fundraising and donating efforts all year round. Sue said: “Here at The Hazelwell, we like to use Christmas as an opportunity to thank all of those people who have been so supportive to us all year and help make The Hazelwell the care home it is. “We are really proud of our relationship with the YMCA Wirral in Birkenhead too and have been supporting them for a couple of years so we know how very important their work is, especially at this time of year so we were very keen to invite them to them to the lunch event too.” The Hazelwell is also pairing up with Age UK and hosting a Christmas lunch for Wirral veterans on December 4. Based on the site of the former Cleaver Hospital, used by The Home Guard in the Second World War, the home has a long history of supporting the work of the Armed Forces and is pleased to be bringing together veterans and residents in support of Age UK during the festive season. Mrs Ball added: “We are looking forward to partnering with Age UK and welcoming war veterans who did so much for this country to the home for another special lunch with residents of The Hazelwell. “Christmas is a really special time for our residents as it brings back so many memories, and we love embracing the songs, decorations and traditions. We aim to include something for everyone to enjoy this year and for those who simply love all things Christmassy - there’s lots and lots of festive fun to be had!” The party atmosphere will be back once more on December 7, with all staff and residents’ families coming together for Christmas carols and a festive singalong for all to enjoy. The Hazelwell activities co-ordinator Sandra Clarke added: “We’re looking forward to all our residents having a really joyful time with the team here at The Hazelwell and their friends and families. It’s not always an easy time of year for many of them and we will be hoping to create lots of new happy Christmas memories.” The Hazelwell has been named in the Top 20 Recommended Care Homes in the North West – the only care home in the Wirral - by leading UK care home website, carehome.co.uk, with a score of 9.7 out of ten.
