HYPE AND THE HIVE JOIN FORCES TO TAKE ON HOLLYOAKS STARS IN CHARITY FOOTBALL CHALLENGE
NORTHERN LIGHTS CHILDREN ’ S CHARITY MAKING DREAMS COME TRUE
A team of famous faces from Channel 4 ’ s Hollyoaks has emerged triumphant after facing opponents from two of Wirral ’ s leading youth organisations in a special charity football match .
The stars were pitted against teams of young people from HYPE Merseyside , a non-profit youth provider and The Hive , Wirral Youth Zone , the borough ’ s new purpose-built youth facility . Both organisations are based in Birkenhead .
Young people taking part in the charity match were asked to secure a minimum of £ 10 sponsorship , with all proceeds raised going to HUGS , a charity that focuses on bringing education to children and young people at school , college and university in Uganda and Rwanda .
Amongst the celebrity footballers taking on the youth teams were ; David Kennedy who plays Dirk Savage , Nick Pickard who plays Tony Hutchinson and Jacob Roberts who plays Damon Kinsella .
All teams put in a strong performance and it was a close fought contest , with the Hollyoaks squad being overall victors on the night . The Hive ’ s 4G , roof-top football pitch provided the perfect setting for the charity tournament and enabled young members from The Hive to showcase the skills they have developed as a result of training with the centre ’ s qualified sports coaches .
Stuart Barnes , Chief Executive at The Hive added , “ We know there will be many more opportunities for us to share events and initiatives like this with HYPE , who are just across the road from us and are reaching out to the same young people as The Hive . We are enormously grateful to the stars from Hollyoaks who gave up their time to enjoy this event with us and raise much-needed funds for HUGS .”
Northern Lights Children ’ s Charity made dreams come true for 10 very deserving children with a trip to Disneyland Paris .
Imagine the excitement of waking in Disneyland ’ s Hotel rooms , fit for princes and princesses and heading off to breakfast with Mickey , Pluto , Tigger , Piglet and Eeyore in the Plaza Gardens . This is how 10 children with life limiting illnesses started their adventure . Cuddles with the characters set the scene for all the adrenalin filled rush of Disneyland ’ s Park . With parades , shows , rides and much more ! If that wasn ’ t enough excitement the evening brought the swash-buckling razzmatazz of a Wild West Show ! The next day was packed with Disney ’ s Studio Park , Mickey ’ s Village and dinner with more characters ! The Park at night was magical with fireworks , illuminations and scenes straight out of a fairytale . By the last day everyone had new friends , exciting memories and photos to share but the adventures were not complete without lunch with Disney ’ s Princesses before heading home . With satisfied dreams and buzzing with amazing stories to tell the children relaxed on the airplane all the richer for Disney ’ s magic ! Walt Disney said , “ All our dreams come true , if we have the courage to pursue them ” and these 10 amazingly courageous children certainly lived their dreams !
