IN BRIEF SCULPTOR EMMA RODGERS VISITS BIRKENHEAD SCHOOL BEDS AVAILABLE FOR RESPITE CARE AT WIRRAL CARE HOME THIS WINTER Internationally successful sculptor, Emma Rodgers, recently visited Birkenhead School to deliver a ceramics sculpture workshop to art students. Emma’s stunning and adept work is a source of inspiration for many and her work has been exhibited worldwide in places such as, the Victoria & Albert Museum, The Saatchi, the Grande Palais, Paris, the Stricoff Fine Art Gallery, New York and S.O.F.A. Chicago and New York. Emma’s enigmatic Cilla Black sculpture, worked on alongside fellow sculptor, Andy Edwards, proudly stands outside of The Cavern Club in Liverpool and Emma is currently working with Marvel on such films as Guardians of the Galaxy. The students in Years 11, 12 and 13 at the School had a full day of practical work with Wirral-based artist Emma, who was on hand to offer individual and expert guidance. The group produced pieces from wire, focusing on the torso shape of their chosen figure or animal. Head of Art at Birkenhead School, Ginny Margerison, spoke of Emma’s visit, “It was an amazing, inspirational day; students and teachers alike were in silent awe throughout her skilful demonstrations, and appreciated the individual instruction and expert feedback she provided to all. We are so fortunate at the School to have been able to offer our students this unique and special opportunity to learn from someone of Emma’s calibre.” Headmaster at Birkenhead School, Paul Vicars, said, “Having such a passionate and successful artist as Emma spend valuable time with our art students is an incredible opportunity, allowing them to progress their own creativity and artistic skill. Giving our students every chance to develop their passions, inspiring them at every stage of their education, is something we strive for everyday at Birkenhead School.” Emma is the latest in a line of high-profile visits to the School. Since September, the School has welcomed Clare Balding and Sir Tony Robinson, as well as speakers through the Sixth Form Nicholls Lecture Series including the Rt Hon Frank Field MP, the Archbishop of York and leading business professionals. 10 wirrallife.com A Wirral care home is delighted to announce that it will have beds available for respite care and short stays over the winter period up until January 2018.
