WIRRAL KAYAK CHALLENGE 2022
WIRRAL KAYAK CHALLENGE 2022
This year ' s Wirral Kayak Challenge took place on Sunday 10th July in aid of Claire House Children ' s Hospice , Merseyside and Cheshire Blood Bikes and Teenage Cancer Trust .
Organiser Mike said : " We held our registration nights at The Railway Pub , Meols every Thursday night for two months .
" Prior to the event , we had been watching the wind for 10 days , and every day it was showing 10 to 12 and 14 mph winds , which is far too high for our event as we need 6mph or below . On the day the winds had dropped to 7 and 8 mph which was fine . We had 118 participants raising money through sponsorship for local charities , last year we raised over £ 13.5k so a good target to beat .
" The Kayak event went very well starting at Harrison Drive beach at 9.30am and finishing at Dee Sailing Club Thurstaston at 5.30pm . At Dee Sailing Club we had entertainment on for everyone , Angie and her amazing team accommodated us serving drinks to weary kayakers . We also put a BBQ on for all our participants .
" New Brighton Radio , Shedbrothers / Powerage UK , Mule Train and Ian McCoy ( magician ) were there and have supported us for many years now .
" Our final totals will be in for October where we will be holding a presentation evening at The Railway Pub , Meols to hand over all sponsorship monies to our chosen charities . Date to be arranged
" Thank You to Dee Sailing Club , Derby Pool New Brighton ( Harvester ), Railway Inn Meols ( Hungry Horse ), R and J Travel , Hinton Butchers ( West Kirby ), New England Medical , Commercial Safety Boats ( Chester ), MES Marine , New Brighton Radio , Shedbrothers / Powerage UK , Mule Train , Ian McCoy ( Magician ), Gwynedd PWC , Frodsham Kayak Hire and Chester Kayak Hire ."
