Heswall ’ s Bun has gained an amazing reputation since opening a year ago . The concept of long term friends Tom and Oliver .
Burgers are big business these days and these guys wanted to take everything they do up several notches with their own unique twist and imaginative approach to ingredients and flavours . We ' d heard nothing but rave reviews from literally everyone we asked , so were delighted to finally get stuck in to their menu of substantial dishes and well considered cocktails , quality beer and wine . We soon found out that Bun is not your average burger joint .
Let the feast commence ...
• Wings - Crispy fried wings smothered in their own mix of Franks hot sauce & house made cafe de paris butter ( over 50 ingredients ) they call buffalo butter ( they need to sell this by the jar , incredible ).
• Ribs - 16 hour sous vide baby back ribs , oven finished with homemade teriyaki glaze , topped with roasted nut mix .
• Mushroom Mac - Homemade cheddar & blue cheese sauce , mushroom duxelles , white truffle oil , diced portobello mushroom , macaroni . Normally I ' m not a mac fan but this is a different league .
• Caesar Salad - Grilled chicken , house caesar dressing , brioche croutons , crispy bacon bits , shaved parmesan , crispy onions .
• Spicy Goat - Minced steak patty , grilled goats cheese , house choron reduction , buffalo butter , baby gem , pickled jalapenos , crispy onion .
• Tapas - Secret recipe sausage patty , morcilla de burgos , applebys farm egg , manchego cheese , chorizo crisps , house padron pepper mayonnaise .
• Surf & turf - Minced steak patty , house lobster thermidor , panko crispy tiger prawn , baby gem , grilled bacon , tomato relish , vine tomato , crispy onion .
We even had a Guinness sorbet - brilliant mad scientist stuff . To drink ...
• Strawberry daiquiri - with real strawberry jam & fresh squeezed lime .
• Tommy ' s margarita - El jimador reposado tequila , with real agave syrup , fresh squeezed lime .
• Espresso martini - Black magic rum , fresh espresso , vanilla sugar , Mr Black ' s cold brew coffee liqueur .
• Ribbonwood New Zealand Sauvignon . Top drawer .
• Alhambra Singular Lager , again these guys have studied their offerings and have ticked the box with this rare great choice .
In summary :
Literally everything we tried has had a serious amount of thought applied . Nothing was basic . Interesting combinations of ingredients that really work . We love creative restless chefs - always tinkering , trying new ideas . Through hard work these guys have nailed their own impressive vision , we ' re not surprised that many people have said : " The best burgers they ' ve ever had on the Wirral ." All delivered with a lovely easy attitude and a nice vibe .
