IN BRIEF WOODSIDE FERRY VILLAGE SET TO TURN WIRRAL WATERFRONT INTO MAJOR VISITOR ATTRACTION W BUSINESS L NEW BRIGHTON SET TO WELCOME GIANT VISITOR Woodside Ferry Terminal is set to host an innovative new food-hall aptly named Woodside Ferry Village. Located in the heart of Birkenhead’s waterfront, the food concept venue will take residence within the terminal, inspired by the success and rising trend for food-markets in a number of cosmopolitan locations, which includes Lisbon, Barcelona, Brixton, Liverpool, London and Altrincham. The Woodside Ferry Village scheme was initiated by Woodside Area Community Interest Company (WACIC) and promises to offer a world of culinary wealth under one roof provided by pop-up independent traders and retailers from the local area. A spokesperson on behalf of WACIC said: “Wirral has enjoyed a fantastic period of growth whereby it has firmly established itself as a destination in the North West, and through the introduction of the Woodside Ferry Village we look forward to creating a concept that will offer both our community and visitors alike the opportunity to experience the diversity and welcoming atmosphere that Wirral is so renowned for. “What we will offer will be totally unique enabling a real focus on the community element – we look to provide a platform for traders within our area so they can showcase what they do best to a much wider audience. As part of the Woodside Ferry Village concept, vendors will be trading from twelve initial concession spaces with plans to expand the available opportunities over the coming months. Our visitors can expect a fully immersive experience with a rich, diversity of cuisines to sample, coupled with a calendar of events and activities – from cultural, music and art events to social initiatives.” The Woodside Ferry Village project, which is looking to open for business during Autumn 2018, is already gaining support from leading figures in Wirral, including Head of Business Improvement District (BID), Gemma Nichols who said: “This project is both exciting and adventurous and promises the boost Birkenhead needs to attract new business and visitor footfall, both key objectives of the Birkenhead Business Improvement District. BID will support this plan and will work closely with the WACIC in turning this new vision into reality.” Stunning artwork has been unveiled which reveals that New Brighton will be one of the locations involved in the brand new Giant spectacular heading to Liverpool and Wirral in October. New Brighton Lighthouse features on the design created by Liverpool artist Alice Duke, confirming that a giant visitor is expected to explore parts of Wirral for a day, with the lighthouse being included on the route on Friday 5 October – so mark that date in your diary! Liverpool’s Dream takes place from Thursday 4 to Sunday 7 October, and will see Royal de Luxe bring their unforgettable street theatre event to Liverpool for the third time, with a first ever visit to Wirral. As usual, the French team are keen to keep an air of mystery around the event, so the full route and the specifics around which giants are coming are going to be kept under wraps for some time. There are opportunities for Wirral businesses to get involved with this incredible event and organisers are looking for concessions stands, particularly food and drink vendors.
