At this time of year thoughts naturally lean to holidays and where
better to vacate your life than on an island in the Mediterranean.
Whilst on holiday I am always inspired and come back not only
refreshed but full of ideas to present to our clients for their interiors.
I love to mix patterns and the people of the Mediterranean do
that instinctively so well. Remember sitting on the terrace of your
favourite beach side café, the blue and white of the canopy above
your head, mixed with the flowers splattered plates on which your
coral pink prawns are served on, huddled next to the terracotta pots
housing a riot of colour, all anchored by the white table cloths and
the azure blue of the water on the horizon. Mix in the vivid colours
of the happy clothes you are probably wearing that is design at its
best, everything working in harmony and balance.
Wherever you are off to, be it Capri, Corsica or Croatia, take a fresh
look at your surroundings and think about incorporating a little
of that summer sunshine in to your home on your return. Ponder
on the turquoise and dark navy hues, white linen with a splash of
Bougainvillea pink. Mix your vintage furniture with contemporary
design pieces like the hotels do and if you are on budget just paint
a feature wall or buy some new cushions for that instant re- vamp.
