What’s your vision for the Across Mersey Swim? The first recorded Across Mersey Swim was in 1863 and remains as challenging now as it did back then. My vision would be to open this amazing swim to as many competent swimmers as possible to enjoy this iconic challenge and to place the Mighty River Mersey on the world map for open water adventure swimming. What is your biggest accomplishment? I think Tri-4-Life has been a pretty huge accomplishment in my life - as the principles and ethos define me as a person. My family, friends, work, social life and business benefit from the experiences we all share. What would be your ultimate achievement? To continue to enjoy new challenges in all aspects of my life and to see the younger generations involved in all we do. What was the best advice you were ever given? I have been fortunate to have good mentors and many notable examples to follow in my life. The best advice I have been given is ‘to do what you think is right, for the right reasons at that time and to learn from both your achievements and mistakes’. What is your favourite car? I have never really been one for cars. As a youngster, I had two uncles that worked for Bentley Motors in Crewe. It was always a childhood dream to own a Bentley Continental. Alcohol or tee total? I am not a big drinker, however in my maturing years I do enjoy a small measure of Irish whisky over ice reflecting on what has been and the possibilities of what can be. What is your favourite cuisine? Good wholesome English or Italian cooking, enjoyed with family and friends. Do you have a saying or motto that you live your life by? Yes, our team song by the Dubliners ‘Don’t Give Up till it’s Over’ wirrallife.com wirrallife.com 25 19
