HONDA E ( ADVANCE -113 KW ) by Tony Yates
This month I ’ m here to tell you why the Honda e is a wonderful little thing .
Also , why I ’ m here , I will tell why there isn ’ t any reason whatsoever as to why you shouldn ’ t go out right now and buy the Honda E . I know you are probably thinking I ’ m clearly mad and the only reason I ’ m saying this is because I now live in a cabin in the woods , I ’ m self-sufficient and I spend my days growing vegetables - meaning I ’ m a born again ‘ save the planet ’ sort of guy ’ Wrong ! I have tested many electric vehicles and there are many of them that I was happy to return . Except for this . I never ever wanted to give the little ‘ Honda e ’ back .
Here is a little bit of what Honda says : Positioned as an urban-commuter , with styling cues taken from the original 1970 ’ s Civic , the Honda e is the brand ’ s first pure BEV in Europe , and the start of Honda ’ s electrification journey . The Honda e helps kick start the brand ’ s commitment to having electrified 100 % of all its car sales by 2025 and is a fusion of pure , simplistic style and chic , underpinned by world-class engineering and Honda ’ s relentless commitment to R & D .
Sounds brilliant right ? Well , let ’ s see how it faired out on the open road .
Power and Efficiency : The 35.5kWh battery placement within the Honda e has led to an exceptionally low CoG and optimized weight distribution . The cells also hold enough charge to deliver a WLTP confirmed range of 125 miles and with the average commute in the UK being around 23 miles , the Honda e is the perfect solution to modern day motoring .
Out on the open road , the Honda e was fast – as it whizzed around the country lanes while also taking on even the most mundane of motorways with ease . Then , when you hit the city streets – the Honda e shows where it ’ s most comfortable and most at home . The Honda e is also perfect for a quick dash to the shops or that short trip to the office .
If you fancy seeing what the Honda e can really do – then expect a top speed of around 100mph and a 0-62 time of 8 seconds , which seems slow – but it ’ s not really , because it scoots along at a very quick pace and at times it felt so much faster . Remember , there are no gear changes to do and the pace it has as soon as you press the Go-Go pedal is staggering thanks to 315Nm of torque . It ’ s like a little puppy dog , dashing around everywhere while snapping at the heels of some of the bigger dogs out to play that day .
On the road : The Honda e feels nimble and controlled and the chassis is refined . You can also feel the stiffer platform and suspension – which certainly helps it play its part in improving the ride quality . The steering system also feels direct and the feedback for the driver is great . So , a great all-around driving experience then . Plus , Honda has placed the four wheels in the outmost corners of the car , increasing driving pleasure , practicality , and overall manoeuvrability ; giving the Honda e a 4.3m turning circle .
Design & Technology : Beneath the Honda e ’ s , clean exterior is a host of modern technologies that would make even the most technically minded person go all mushy on the inside . For me , the interior has been designed to make the driver ’ s life easier , simpler , and more relaxing which is a plus point in my book . Also , central to the instrument panel are two intuitive12 ” screens that provide a wealth of information and connectivity options to the occupants . This out of the world system allows key information to be relayed to the driver when it ’ s needed most . This is just the tip of the iceberg – there is so much more to explore inside the Honda e – but , I ’ m going to let you make that journey all by yourself .
Also , thanks to Honda ’ s advanced charging and energy management technologies , the Honda e can be fast-charged to 80 % battery capacity in just 30 minutes . I can ’ t even charge my mobile phone that fast .
Standard equipment includes ; Curtain airbags ( front & rear ) Drivers airbag ( dual-stage inflation ) Passenger airbag & isolator switch , Side airbags ( front ) Anti-lock Braking System , Brake Assist , City Brake Active System , Electronic Brakeforce Distribution , Emergency Stop Signal , Hill Start Assist , Traction Control , Vehicle Stability Assist with Agile Handling Assist , Blind Spot Information , Cross Traffic Monitor , Deflation Warning System , Honda SENSING Collision Mitigation Braking System with Pedestrian Detection , Forward Collision Warning Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control with Cut in Prediction , intelligent Speed Limiter , Lane Departure Warning with Road Departure Mitigation , Lane Keeping Assist System and Traffic Sign Recognition System .
