LOW , SLOW & DOUGH by Si Hall & Arthur Gold

Low Slow and Dough have created brilliant and authentic Mexican dishes from its kitchen at Woodside Ferry Village . They are passionate about cooking bona fide Mexican street food , Tijuana style , the stuff you ’ re much more likely to find in the genuine food trucks of LA and Mexico City , than under a grey sky , alongside the banks of the River Mersey .
Seated in the outdoor area on a surprisingly balmy sunny day , we ordered a selection of dishes to taste .
Out first was the Crispy Chicken burritos . This dish came with slaw , guacamole , salsa ranchera , lime cream and pink onion . Packed with grilled cheese , coriander rice and refried beans . These authentic chicken burritos are the real deal , seriously heavy duty . The chicken was nicelymarinated , moist and tender , with a nice bit of crunch . All the ingredients have their own distinct flavours and are well blended when wrapped , so that each bite gives delivers - they ’ ve got it perfect here .
We ordered four Tacos ; Jackfruit Adobo , Crispy Chicken , Ouzo Shrimp and Beef Birria & Consomme .
The Jackfruit Adobo tacos came with tomatillo salsa , pineapple , onion , coriander and chilli . These were smoky , spicy and delicious . Not only do they look like the real thing , they taste like it too ! The homemade tomatillo was excellent .
The Crispy Chicken Tacos , were just that - crunchy on the outside - a very good crunch in fact , considering they were so tender inside , the chicken seasoning was skilfully done .
The Ouzo Shrimp Tacos came with iceberg , mango habanero salsa ( quite hot actually but still tasty , not fire for the hell of it ) and pink pickled onion . The shrimp was perfectly done , light and buttery , worked well with the punchy feisty salsa .
The Beef Birria and Consomme Tacos with grilled cheese , guacamole , chilli salsa , onion and coriander was beautifully plated up , tasty and colourful . The tender beef had a solid smoky hit .
Finally we had the Beef Birria Quesadilla , oozing with grilled Monterey Jack cheese and served with guacamole , chilli salsa , slaw , onion and coriander . Again this was another knockout !
We cannot recommend Low , Slow & Dough highly enough . The food is seriously authentic , great value and in the amazing Woodside Ferry Village location . Food with a view .
