INTERIOR DESIGN CHALLENGE!
Wow dear reader, I did not think, I would
be writing to you this month from isolation!
We are living in strange times and we all are
going to feel the impact of this for weeks,
months and possibly years to come, but let's
not concentrate on the negative and take
this opportunity to look at where and how
we live and maybe change it up a bit! I want
you to become your own interior designer
and pick a room to improve without
spending a penny! 3. Think about what you want to use the
room for, if its not obviously a bathroom,
kitchen etc! Do you want to sleep in it,
read, dine, work, then write down from
the inventory of your house furniture
that you could use, its like shopping in
your own house, maybe that old chest
of drawers would look fab in the dining
room as a buffet, paint it up and glue
those old tiles in the garage on top giving
it a new purpose and look!
Here we go... 4. Soft furnishings can also be moved
around the house, have you got some old
silk scarves use them as new holdbacks
for those tired old curtains, or sew them
together for new cushion covers.
You have chosen a room that feels tired,
maybe it doesn’t function, maybe its cluttered,
maybe you have never known what to do with
it! This is what we do as professionals when
presented with a space.
1.
Take photos of the room, you may think
you know your space but seeing it from
different angles can shed some light on
what the problem may be.
Finally, if you get stuck and want some
professional help, we are offering some
remote one to one sessions, just send an email
to [email protected], explaining
the problem and we will organise a video chat
with you.
Most importantly all of us at Kingston Shaw
are sending you love and hoping that you
stay safe and well.
2.
Get a pen and paper and draw the room,
doesn’t have to be accurate, just the
shape, where is the door, the window,
where are the lights, the power sockets,
are there any anomalies in the room.

5. Move your lamps and floor standing
lamps around see the different effects
they can give whilst placed in different
parts of the house they don’t have to
be stuck on a table or in the corner of
a room!
6. De Clutter - Do you need or want all
the stuff in that room, if you don’t, sell
it! Use the funds to buy something you
do need or want, some fresh paint, new
curtains, an up cycled sofa!
7. If you are moving furniture from one
room to another then please measure it
before you lug it and get it trapped in the
doorway!
