Osborne & Little’ s Palmeria, bang on trend for 2018
BEST ON SHOW!
Representatives from our wallpaper suppliers have been flocking to Kingston Shaw to show off their new designs, enticing us with their geometric graces and floral fancies, we have been seduced into specifying wallpapers in our new projects and we thought you might like to see some of the best the industry has to offer.
Wallpaper has been used in residences since before the 17th Century, but it wasn’ t until 1785 that a machine was built by Christophe-Philippe Oberkampf that could print colour on long sheets of wallpaper making it accessible to repeat the pattern and garner consistency, which in turn enabled it to become a commercial enterprise and to be used by the masses. By the 1960’ s thanks to our Victorian cousins our houses barely had a surface that was not covered in paper and decorated to within an inch of its life.
Today, wallpaper is appreciated for its aesthetic qualities as much as its ability to cost effectively add drama and or colour to a room. We are spoilt with the amount of patterns and textures that are available and we have come a long way from the block printing of the 18th Century we now have wallpapers that can block or increase cellular phone activity and recently scientists have developed wallpaper that keeps the masonry together in earthquake prone areas.
De Gourney’ s Rateau – Gold Bullion Gilded Paper, yes Gold Bullion!
Wall Panels are another way of covering a wall; we are obsessing over the waterfall collection from Timorous Beasties.
The main types of wallpaper include hand-printed block wood wallpaper, hand-printed stencil wallpaper, machine-printed wallpaper, flock wallpaper, digital, vinyl printed and cloth backed. All have their own merits and fans, always ask a professional for their advice and tips for hanging.
Geometrics are exactly what our walls want for depth and balance. We love this one from Graham & Brown.
Digital Prints can take Old Masters in to new places, Tektura has a range to offer or you can pick your own and have it created.
