NEW EXHIBITION‘ SELLING SUNLIGHT’ AT PORT SUNLIGHT MUSEUM
The new exhibition‘ Selling Sunlight’ at Port Sunlight Museum is now open.
‘ Selling Sunlight’ explores how William Lever made his soap company into a household name and worldwide brand.
You’ ll be able to discover the innovative approach Lever took with advertisements, selling an aspiration rather than just focusing on the product itself, and listen to stories of some of the company’ s most famous publicity campaigns.
On display will also be the range of children’ s novelty brand gifts that demonstrated how Lever Brothers encouraged brand loyalty from a young age, as well as how Port Sunlight itself was tied into the brand image through local scenes appearing on packaging, railway posters, newspaper adverts and company guides taking visitors around the village.
A colourful exhibition, perfect for youngsters and adults alike, with nostalgic displays of vintage packaging and a recreated grocers shop.
Your ticket also gives you a chance to step inside a worker’ s cottage and experience everyday life in Port Sunlight in Edwardian times. Explore the family bedrooms, scullery and living room, which doubled as the kitchen, all recreated with the furniture and fittings of a bygone age. The historic cottage, Number 22, is right next door to the museum and you’ ll be given a warm welcome by our volunteers.
The exhibition is included in your admission price to the museum and is open daily 10am-5pm.
