Kate Mosse is back with her historical novel The Burning Chambers. This is the start of a new series which will cover three centuries and travel the world from Carcassonne to South Africa. Set in the 16th Century Langudec, intrigue between families, religion, buried secrets, and a touch of Romeo and Juliet, all that you love about Kate is in this novel.

The main characters are Minou and Piet a Catholic girl and a young Hugenot caught up in the drama and religious warfare of the time. Minou’ s family are booksellers in Langudec. Her father is a respected member of the local community, however, he has recently stopped going to the bookshop and prefers to stay by his fireside, not wanting to read a book never mind printing one. Not only that, he refuses to discuss what ails him as he appears to be fading away. A letter is hand delivered to their bookshop, for the attention of Minou, not her father, which is unusual in itself. A family crest is stamped on the note which she does not recognise. One line is printed on the letter, Could it be a warning? Who is this letter from? What does it mean? Secrets and drama weave their magic and catch the reader from the outset.
