The weather forecast was kind to Cars and Coffee Liverpool for most of the morning, the threatening cloudy skies which would have made fellow car lovers apprehensive about dragging their‘ just polished’ metal from their protective cocoon garages. But the meeting soon swung into action with the sound of David Espley’ s 1972 Alfa GT junior V6. C & CL have always had a list of dealers and manufacturers supporting each meeting, but this month we are proud to announce the new endorsement from Alexanda Cook- Development Director of BMW Williams Group. A series of promotional M Powered performance and iElectric cars were demonstrated to the local car enthusiast, plus for the children- a taste of the future- the shape of things to come.
The Liverpool Lord Mayor Roz Gladden and consort Roy Gladden made yet another appearance here at Cars and Coffee Liverpool. To support the Chosen Charity- Tom Harrison Foundation( for local war veterans- we raised £ 263.53 in 2 hours). The time- served soldiers were charming and humble as usual serving their charity from the crack of dawn.
Cllr Roy Gladden seemed to be facinated by the electric cars here at the meetings especially Tesla, but the BMW i8 was the car of choice for him, because of the sleek futuristic design and the impressive 310 mile range on a full charge.
The Chung Ku Restaurant this time formed the backdrop for a stunning radiant orange Datsun 240z parked head to head with Stephen Johansen’ s full blown Volkswagen Polo Cup racecar- Speedworks BTCC Team, kindly transported to show us before the race season starts( seeking another sponsor this year). You could say retro meets motorsport on the front steps of the entrance.
What comes to mind when you think of Martin Scorsese’ s legendary classic- Goodfellas with Di Niro, Liota and Pesci? Well, the movie’ s actual star was a 1975 Lincoln Continental IV in metallic dark brown. It boasts the‘ modern’ pop up lights, the long bonnet coupe styling and it’ s lavish, yet outlandishly huge front seat- the size of an American sofa. The Lincoln Continental is a series of luxury cars produced by Lincoln- an American division of Ford. But this particular generation of Continental is favored by collectors and has appeared in many classic movies, such as Goldfinger, The Matrix, Last Action Hero, Kalifornia, Spider-Man and Animal House.
As usual, the sheer variety of vehicles this month was really interesting. There were many greats from the Ford Owners Club, Lotus Espirit Turbos, a Lancias Stratos Rally car and even a pair of retroed Mk1 Honda Civics.
Who knows and what surprises next month will bring?
