Seniors Are A Majority Online
New survey finds who spends most time online.
What age group is spending the most time online
outside of work? If you said Millennials, the young
adults aged 18-33, you need to think a little older - a
few decades older. It’s the Baby Boomers, those
aged 51-69, that now the majority power users, even
though many are now classified as senior citizens.
More than half of the boomers (51%) are now online
more than 15 hours per week. Only 41% of the
Millennials spend that much time online.
According to the “State of the User Experience” Re-
port released by Limelight Networks, Inc., a digital
content delivery, time spent online in the past year
has dramatically increased - with 45 percent of re-
spondents spending more than 15 hours a week on
their laptop, tablet or phone.
The Mobile Web, the Importance of the Experience
As the always-connected world continues to expand,
so do expectations for the mobile Web - which now
has surpassed desktop Web usage according to
ComScore. Last year, users were asked if they
would be willing to wait longer for a website to load
on a mobile device, versus a laptop or desktop, and
44 percent said they would.
This year, the results are startlingly different - only 35
percent said they would be willing to wait longer on
a mobile device, and nearly 40 percent expect
equally fast-loading sites, regardless of if the page
is accessed from a mobile device or a laptop/desk-
top. Clearly, as the transition rates increase, so do
expectations for the mobile web.
