IWCS Appoints Xiong Zhuang of Yangtze
OFC to Symposium Committee
IWCS - International Cable & Connectivity Symposium,
the premier worldwide conference for new technologies in
cable and connectivity products, processes and applications,
has appointed Xiong Zhuang of Yangtze OFC (YOFC) to the
IWCS Symposium Committee.
This committee is crucial to the success of the
conference, establishing the full content of the
program and carefully selecting the papers to
be presented.
“YOFC has contributed strong content/papers to
the IWCS for over 20 years and Xiong Zhuang alone
has published 26 at IWCS since 2004,” said Eric
Lawrence of Nexans and Symposium Committee
Chairman. “We look forward to having Zhuang’s
invaluable Chinese perspective, vision and content
on the IWCS Symposium Committee,” continued
Lawrence, “particularly in light of the IWCS
evolution that includes the UL and IWCS China
Cable & Connectivity Symposium.”
Xiong Zhuang received his Ph.D. in Mechanical
Manufacturing and Automation from Huazhong
University of Science and Technology in 2000. Since
then, he has been working with Yangtze Optical
Fibre and Cable Joint Stock Limited Company,
engaged in the research and development of optical
fibre cables. He has participated in IWCS activities
since 2004 and was one of the first Chinese speakers
at IWCS from Mainland China. He has obtained over
70 patents and published more than 60 technical
papers, of which 26 are published at IWCS.
He currently is the Cable CTO of the YOFC
Manufacturing Center and the Deputy General
Manager of their R&D Center. He is the associate
rapporteur of Q17 in ITU-T SG15 and an expert
in IEC SC86A as well as the member of academic
committee of the Chinese State Key Laboratory of
Optical Fibre and Cable Manufacturing Technology.
He is also the vice chairman of Communication
Line Committee of the China Institute of
Communications, a member of the expert panel of
Optical and Electrical Cable and Wire Committee in
China Electronic Components Industry Association
and a member of technical committee of the TELL
Certification Center in China.
“It is my great honor to join the IWCS team as its
first Chinese member,” said Mr. Xiong. “Chinese
companies and professionals are increasingly more
involved in IWCS activities in recent years. YOFC, as
the leader in the Chinese Optical Fiber and Cable
industry for more than 20 years, would like to make
more contributions to this highly valued Technical
Cable & Connectivity Symposium, with such a long
and successful history. Chin a has become the largest
cable & connectivity market in the world. Therefore,
YOFC commits to be a beneficial contributor as a
representative of the Chinese industry on the IWCS
Symposium Committee,” continued Xiong.
David Kiddoo, IWCS Executive Director, agrees. “It
is important that IWCS have strong representation,
leadership and contribution from China. This will
ensure continued growth and relevance of IWCS
throughout our global industry” stated Kiddoo.
“Zhuang’s expertise and knowledge of the technical
strengths and needs of the Chinese market will be
vital to IWCS going forward. We are very fortunate to
have him join the IWCS team.”
