Optimizing the OEE of Cable
Machinery With Digitized Data
The “NIEHOFF Magazine” 2/2018 is out now
Maschinenfabrik Niehoff has
published a new issue of its customer
magazine ”NIEHOFF Magazine“. The
main contribution shows how the
optimization of the Overall Equipment
Effectiveness (OEE) of Niehoff
machines and Niehoff’s digitizing
concept relate to each other and how
operating data can be used to optimize
their OEE. Next to digitization which
is the future, the Niehoff Group is also
expanding its activities into larger
rotating equipment for stranding wires
and cables with bigger cross sections.
Some details regarding double twist
stranding machines for bigger cables
and rigid stranding machines are
described in this issue.
Further contributions deal with China and India and
the economic situation of these markets for the wire
and cable industry. For decades, Niehoff has been
active now on both markets where its subsidiaries
Niehoff Machinery Changzhou (NMC) and Niehoff
of India (NoI) build Niehoff machinery under Niehoff
license and offer their customers the complete
Niehoff service. The magazine describes also the
Niehoff exhibits shown at the wire China 2018 and
wire India 2018 trade fairs.
Two of the numerous companies, with whom Niehoff
fosters long-standing relationships, are the Jiangsu
Shangshang Cable Group, one of the leading cable
manufacturers in China, and the Ram Ratna Group
(RR Kabel Ltd.), one of the leading manufacturers
of enamelled wires and electric cables in India. The
Jiangsu Shangshang Cable Group is introduced
in the company portrait, while in an interview
Mr. Mahendra Kabra, Executive Director of RR
Kabel, talks about the market situation in India and

the further development of the cable production
technology.
As Niehoff machines have always been regarded
as of high quality, high performance and stable in
value, it is worthwhile to have these machines after
years of use overhauled by Niehoff specialists and
brought back to the state-of-the-art. As an example
the modernization of a rod breakdown machine type
M 85 with 60,000 hours of operation is described in
this issue.
Biannually the “NIEHOFF Magazine” informs its
readers about company news and developments,
trade shows and events and other interesting topics.
The magazine, published in English and German with
some of the articles and summaries in Chinese and
Russian, is available at the Niehoff headquarters in
Germany, all Niehoff subsidiaries and service offices
worldwide, and also on the Niehoff website.
