Cabwire Training Fundamental
Workshops – 2nd – 3rd April 2019
Following the success of the CabWire 2017 Fundamental Workshops
in Düsseldorf, organisers of this year’s CabWire 2019 the IWMA,
decided to bring education to the forefront of this year’s event with
a two-day event held in Southampton, UK.
Sponsored by the IWMA Educational Trust
the Fundamental Workshops offer delegates
the opportunity to take part in expert-led
talks and training with a ferrous and non-
ferrous programme featuring key topics
such as Wire Drawing, Stranding, Extrusion,
Armouring, Dies for wire drawing, LV Cable
design, Galvanising, Automation Systems, Fire
Resistance of Cables and Induction Heating.
The first day of the two-day event at the university’s
Highfield campus, will hear from training lead
Amanda Shehab and a key note from Prysmian
Group, before a series of 45-minute sessions running
throughout the day, with lunch and refreshment
breaks. As well as the training sessions, attendees
will get the chance to tour the university’s fascinating
high-voltage laboratory and visit the table top
exhibition in the main break out area.
“The decision to run a CabWire Fundamentals
event came out of the success of 2017, when all
the sessions were very well attending,” said IWMA
Educational Trust Director, Peter Large. “The
Fundamentals programme falls nicely within the
IWMA’s educational programme, so the Educational
Trust will be sponsoring the day and providing free
places for students, graduates, apprentices and entry
level staff.”
On the evening of the first day the day will conclude
with a private tour and meal at the National Motor
Museum at nearby Beaulieu, which will provide a
perfect networking opportunity for delegates. While
the next morning brings a tour of Prysmian Cables
& Systems Limited located in nearby Eastleigh, part
of the global Prysmian Group, for a tour of their
customer centre, optical factory, special cables
factory and the viewing platform the high voltage
laboratory. Transport is provided for both visits.
