Welcome to the Winter / Spring 2018 issue of the City of Napa’s Recreation Guide. This magazine is your personal resource library for recreational opportunities within your
community. We are pleased to offer you over 145 programs that are sure to appeal to your spirit of adventure, whatever it may be! While we are fortunate to have outstanding
recreational resources in Napa, including 55 parks, an 18-hole championship golf course and three community centers, we couldn’t deliver the high-quality experiences available
today without the tireless efforts of our volunteers. I would like to introduce you to one very special volunteer and his service club who have truly become Napa’s champion of
playgrounds. Jim Roberts has been a distinguished member of the Kiwani’s Club of Napa for over 50years. When he was not busy running Roberts Hallmark Store, he volunteered
in several local organizations and service clubs. Recognizing the importance of a constructive, safe, healthy environment for youth to play, Jim organized a group of fellow
Kiwanians in 1990 to replace a school playground in Napa. Borne from this effort, he and the Kiwanis Club of Napa have constructed 69 playgrounds throughout the Napa Valley,
including six within the City of Napa. Their volunteer installation efforts have reduced the cost of these playgrounds by nearly half, allowing us to invest more money in other
playgrounds and park improvements. Jim and his fellow Kiwanians most recent installation was completed as a part of our 27thArbor Day Celebration at Fuller Park on November
4th. Jim’s leadership was celebrated by dedicating the playground in his honor. Our Arbor Day Celebration was truly a community wide initiative with additional volunteer efforts
by the Napa Valley Master Gardeners and a variety of citizen volunteers. At 91 years young, Jim shows no sign of slowing down. He has two more community build playgrounds
planned for the coming months. Jim’s dedication, enthusiasm and tenacity is truly remarkable and inspiring. We are pleased to recognize this park champion and salute his many
years of helping weave the fabric of our community. We are most grateful for the efforts of all our many volunteers and thank everyone who makes the time to help enrich our
lives. We wouldn’t be Napa without you!
