communal than laughing over our past field trip antics , thinking back to our magical performance of Lessons and Carols , and the complete awe over our incredible opportunity to visit Italy at such a young age .
Did any teachers from Saint David ’ s inspire you to follow in their path as an educator ? To this day I still draw inspiration from Ms . Nancy Iannicelli and Mr . Jim Barbieri . Though I didn ’ t follow a formal path as an educator , my training role contains a plethora of educational components , and learning from these two respected educators taught me two distinct things : the importance of incorporating art and culture into one ’ s life and having a calm and collected teaching style . Art and culture in life was derived from Ms . Iannicelli ’ s teaching , specifically in how we learned about dozens of different artworks in the Humanities course and what inspired them , and this taught me to find and appreciate art in my day-to-day life and work . A recent example was a pasta we recently sold at Eataly called Caramelle , or Candy in English . The pasta itself , filled with ricotta and swiss chard and topped with a toasted pine nut crema , was delicious , but the shape of the pasta and aesthetics of the dish was a piece of art in and of itself . Without the Humanities course that I took and education from her , I don ’ t think I would have been able to appreciate the art in that dish as much as I had . The calm and collected teaching style was derived from Mr . Barbieri ’ s classes . I often reflect and appreciate the level of patience he had with us , and I try to carry that same level of calm and patience when I educate the junior analysts .
Through your years , share one or two interests and passions that may have begun at Saint David ’ s , but you continue long after graduation . The two interests and passions that continued with me long after graduation are running and drawing . I joined the Saint David ’ s Cross Country team in sixth grade and ran competitively in high school , then ran for pleasure after that point . Running as a counterbalance , following a stressful period of work or stressful day in general . As soon as the running shoes are on and I take off , my mind clears , and I use that time to decompress . And that I think is a perfect example of why a balanced curriculum , which also incorporates sports or physical activity in general , is an essential part of an education . Each pillar serves as a counterbalance to the other and transitioning from one to the other is quite joyful to me . Drawing has also served as a similar counterbalance over the years and is a way for me to further exercise the right side of my brain . One of the main inspirations for me to continue drawing after I graduated Saint David ’ s was my trip to Italy as part of the Humanities program . Seeing in person what the artists were able to create during the Renaissance period was an incredible experience and motivated me to push my creative limits .
What unites our alums ? What are some of the commonalities that are inherent in all Saint David ’ s graduates ? The pillars of a Saint David ’ s education are ingrained in each Saint David ’ s alum . The commonality that I ’ ve seen across alumni is not just excellence in one of the pillars , but a well-rounded joyful balance and utilization of each : Academics , Athletics , Arts , and Spirituality . •
