And the son has been committed to the larger vision of the father from the beginning. As was mentioned, upon returning to the property, Benedict and his wife, Nencia, raised five children in the dilapidated castle. There were plenty of leaks and no central heat, and at times the ceilings would collapse; but Benedikt contends it was a great time. This is why he and his family are intimately tied to the property. For example, when the hotel opened, he did not move off the property, which he could have done, but instead chose to move into one of the properties he restored, bringing with the family a litter of black labs. They remain equally committed to the property and to the community.
Benedikt explains: “When you live in the
countryside, in any place outside of a major city
really, it becomes the preoccupation of your life. You are vested, invested, in the property and its success. And that investment extends to the community around you.” A good example of the latter is Benedikt is now engaging buses to meet the transportation needs of the people in the area who work for Reschio. Understanding there were a number of people who have no cars or families were two members work but have just one car, Benedikt realized that those family members would have been unable to work at Reschio and unable to contribute to the betterment of their family. In other words, both Reschio and the community would have suffered. So, they found a simple solution for a common problem.
Such an awareness is why dig.ni.fy has chosen to highlight Reschio. It serves as an example that excellence can be achieved at any scale.
