When not in your room, Reschio has made a point of ensuring there are plenty of unique experiences tailored to individual interests. First among these experiences is one that stem from Antonio’s own interest in riding. Being inspired as a boy by the famous Lipizzaner horses of Vienna, Antonio purchased an impressive stud and broodmares from the world-renowned Yeguada Candau, just outside Seville. These horses and some 40 foals that have subsequently been produced on the property form the foundation of what has become a stable and riding arena, Teatro Equestre, where guests can take lessons or engage in a hack across the property.
For people who do not ride, there is a cooking school, the Accademia di Cucina della Bottega, where students learn to create dishes from local produce. There is the uniquely designed swimming pool, situated in a round of pines, where guests can catch a quick bite or drink at Il Torrino, a former watchtower located next to the pool. There is a tennis court, where guests can engage in a friendly or inspired game, or work with a pro to improve that game; there are high-quality traditional and electric bikes, which guests can take on cruises around the property; there is a lake, where guests can swim, boat, paddleboard, fish, or simply rest in or alongside the deck house; there is truffle hunting, where guests can join a truffle hunter and dogs in the quest before enjoying the fruits of their find over lunch; and there is the bathhouse, transformed from the ancient wine cellars beneath the Palm Court, where guests can experience bespoke treatments ranging from facials and massages to traditional bathing rituals.
And, of course, there are the restaurants: Ristorante Alle Scuderie and Ristorante Al Castello. Ristorante Alle Scuderie is the less formal of the two. Situated next to the cooking school, it offers a more expansive, open air setting with simple menus. Ristorante Al Castello is a more formal dining room, situated in the castle itself, which serves traditional Italian specialties. Ingredients for both restaurants are sourced locally, either on the estate or in the local area.
It is no wonder the hotel has garnered such notice: National Geographic Traveler awarded the hotel its “Best Country House Hotel of the Year award for 2021, Vogue Magazine called Reschio “the most charming hotel in Italy,” and Men’s Journal listed Reschio among the “10 Best Luxury Hotels in the World for a No-Expense-Spared Getaway.” Not bad for being in business but a few months.
Properties
It was previously noted that 28 properties have been restored and sold to private individuals. There remain six to ten other undeveloped properties that have the bones to allow for restoration. As is the case with each property, Benedikt and his team work hand-in-hand with prospective owners to ensure a creation of a unique place. Many of the plans have earned Benedikt numerous accolades. Of particular note, he has been named “one of the top 100 architects currently working in architecture and design” by Architectural Digest.
Additionally, Benedikt and team often source product for interior of these home. Items might be custom designed by B.B Reschio or found in some of Italy’s antique markets, all of which are available through the Reschio dealership located in the Tabaccaia.
For people interested in a more private stay than the hotel provides, approximately nine of the 28 homeowners currently allow for their properties to be rented when unoccupied. Properties are managed by Reschio.
Moving Traditions Forward
With a solid foundation having been established, Benedikt is pushing Reschio forward through a number of new enterprises:
