In 1955, Larry Grimes, Sr. (a local Winter Gardian) received a call from his aunt to help her take a young man water skiing on Lake Butler. This was apparently the young man’s first attempt at water skiing and therefore, he needed to be instructed how to proceed. Of course Larry accommodated his aunt and went out to assist her in showing the gentleman how to get in the water and use the correct stance. Naturally, as was customary in those laid back days, he didn’t mind taking the time to teach him how to water ski. Little did our Mr. Grimes know his kindness and goodwill would turn out to be a story people would talk about for years to come. His grandson, Jason Grimes, remembers learning about the encounter since his youth.
