It’s normally associated with very cold environments where viewers are asked not to touch or interact with the art pieces on display. Children are hushed and asked not to run. A place where relics harking back to an age that has passed are stored. The SOBO Gallery and Art Center couldn’t be further from this. Children are encouraged to come and interact with the art pieces on display, lively discussions take place during openings as viewers interact with the artists to discuss what inspired their latest creation. It’s a place where the community comes together and people 20  | WINTER GARDEN MAGAZINE | OCTOBER 2018 create and display works of art regardless of capability, background, gender or race. Our outreach programs have allowed both the young and old come together and create. Art is used as therapy to help heal past wounds or as a way of expressing ideas in children of all ages through our collaboration with ArtWorks Orlando. Children who lacked confidence in their own abilities now stand proudly next to their beautiful creations as the public has an opportunity not just to admire their work but to purchase these pieces so we can help to insure the ongoing programming of these healing and confidence building projects.
