March is National Nutrition Month.
What better time to focus the family
on eating healthier and getting in
better shape for 2015?
Losing weight and getting in shape are popular New Year’s
resolutions. Unfortunately, we put so much pressure on
ourselves without any specific goals that the resolutions, all too
frequently, are impossible to stick to. Now is the time to forget
the pressure and take small steps to a healthier, more nutritious
you!
National Nutrition Month is a campaign sponsored annually by
the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. The primary focus of
National Nutrition Month is to show the importance to people
of making good food choices and getting involved in physical
activity. By having information available at home, work and
school it is possible to work together to become a healthier
nation.
A great way to help kids make healthier choices is to involve
them. Rather than packing chips and a soda with their sandwich
for lunch, give them healthier choices to choose from and water
or 100% juice with no sugar added. If children can’t get physical
activity at school, they can play outside for 30 minutes or an hour
to get physical activity. The National Education Association,
www.nea.org, lists 10 free things for National Nutrition Month
that schools can get involved with such as providing students
