WGPD Providing Outstanding Service to the Citizens of Winter Garden The Winter Garden Police Department has been serving our community since 1903. When one thinks about the purpose of a Police Department, the phrase, “To Protect and Serve” may come to mind. After all, it is painted on many police cars throughout our country. When Deputy Chief Bill Sullivan was asked what is unique about their department as compared to other law enforcement agencies, he was quick to answer. “We are big enough to do the job correctly but we are small enough to do the little jobs that bigger agencies would not even entertain. We are extremely, community-policing oriented. We are never backed up on calls and we are very responsive to our citizens. Customer service is key!” The Mission Statement of WGPD is: “Create safe communities by building partnerships to prevent crime and utilizing modern technology to target criminal activities.” The Mission is not just pretty words. Our officers are actively involved in our community through many outreach programs. When asked how the community can help keep Winter Garden safe, Deputy Chief Sullivan stated, “Currently, the biggest thing driving our crime rate is people going around pulling door handles and seeing if they are locked or open. Lock your doors and don’t leave expensive items out. Crooks are lazy. Why break in when the door is unlocked?” In addit [ۋ
