went into a panic. If that huge hulking, hairy creature was
Finn’s baby, then Finn himself must be massive, he thought.
He made his excuses and beat a hasty retreat back home to
Scotland. Fearing that Finn would come after him, he tore
down the causeway behind him.
If I had to sum up our trip to Ireland in just one phrase, I
would borrow one that I learned from a fellow guest at the
flat. Two beautiful Irish girls arrived the second night we
were there. They stormed in with bags of sequins, beads,
masks, tutus...and every type of liquor known to man. Their
intention was to celebrate Halloween, pagan style, around
a bonfire in the woods. The next morning, when I came
down for coffee I found them far worse for wear. They sat,
slumped on the couch, tutus drooping, mascara smeared,
and glitter everywhere. As they mournfully sipped Bailey’s
and Cream, I nipped a little for my coffee. Don’t judge, I was
in Ireland. I cocked one eyebrow as I proffered the bottle
to the saddest looking of the two. She rolled her eyes at me
and said, “Don’t ask, just pour”.
