Getting outside is good for the
soul. I am influenced by natural
forms and organic shapes, and
I think that is reflected in my
work. I use alabaster, soapstone
and limestone. I try to bring out
the beauty of the stones from the
inside out. The unique character
and grain inherent in the stone
guides my design process. This
improvisational technique has
roots in my background as a
musician. It’s important that
art is for everyone; my work
intentionally refrains from being
exclusive or esoteric. It should
be experienced aesthetically
first. I want the shapes to draw
the viewer in. What is seen in
the mind’s eye can be different
for each individual. The smooth
surfaces and finish invite the
viewers to put their hands on the
sculptures. I always encourage
people to touch my sculpture to
add another sensory experience
that involves them on more
tactile level.
