Editor’s Note As 2016 comes to an end, the general consensus was that it was a terrible year. Many people, famous and otherwise, passed on. The country was more divided than ever with the most volatile Presidential election in memory. cee castillo [email protected] PUBLISHER / Editor-in-Chief Cee Castillo [email protected] Editor Brett Dault [email protected] Contributors Jane e. b. simmons Brett Dault Samantha Rhodes Stephen Scarborough Marion Wildey Graphic Design Jules Franzese George Hevel, IV Shannon Alder said, “Whenever you can’t balance what you see with what you believe you have conflict.” Right now, so many people feel conflicted. They feel angry. They feel powerless. But the key is to put into practice what you believe. In this issue, we point to ways you can contribute and make a difference in our community, we look at the hopes and dreams of our children, Hieronymus reminds us how good we have it in Florida, and we have things for your mind, body and spirit. And we hopefully can make you laugh as well. Where there is laughter and love, there is hope. And as 2016 comes to a close we need to remember that the holidays are about connecting to things bigger than ourselves and that the New Year is about renewal. And throughout both, hope lives. I am reminded of one of my favorite lines from any movie: “…hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things. And no good thing ever dies.” We at The Winter Garden Magazine hope you had a wonderful holiday season, and we hope you have a phenomenal 2017!
