Editor’s Note
This year the month of April begins with Easter Sunday. What a great way to start
this eventful month!
We will be moving quickly as the next weekend in April brings us the much
anticipated Spring Fever in the Garden. The brainchild of the diligent ladies of the
Bloom and Grow Garden Society, this event is the largest and most well attended
event on the Winter Garden social calendar. We are proud supporters and will
have a booth at the event where you can come and take a picture with a Monarch
butterfly at our featured photo spot.

In this issue, you will find a candid conversation with Gretchen Boyd, founding
president of the Bloom and Grow Garden Society, and a look back at over 20
years of the amazing works by this group. I would encourage any of today’s young
garden aficionados to look into membership and continue in the great footprints
of the ladies in this organization.

3,000 slaves in DC. Although this holiday is mostly observed only within the
District, we are all lucky enough to have the deadline extended until midnight,
April 17 th , 2018. Don’t wait. Be thankful you can file on time.
The weather is amazing. Spring is the air and so much more to celebrate. What are
your reasons to get out in the WG? Just watching, gazing at the blooms, enjoying
the Farmers Market, Music in the air during Fridays on the Plaza? Tell us. We
want to know!
Our April cover is an extended interpretation of this year’s Spring Fever festival
artwork, created by local artist Andy Crabtree of Crabtree Ink. Andy has been
creating designs for the festival since it’s beginning, eighteen years ago. This year’s
colorful Spring Fever in the Garden t-shirts are available during the event at the
festival booth near the fountain.
