KEEP YOUR SMILE BRIGHT
CHARLA KRUPP
What’s sexier than flashing a big, white, movie-star smile? The
operative words here are “big” and “white.” It instant-messages
the world: “I’m happy, healthy, vital, confident, and very much
in the game, thank you!” You want to flash a big, sexy smile as
much as you can (without looking like a Stepford wife) because a
smile lifts your whole face upward.
Sorry to report that people are constantly making judgements
about us -- our upbringing, our education, our social status, our
health -- all based on the color, size, shape, and fit of our teeth.
In facts, years ago, for the Broadway musical Big River, cosmetic
dentist to the stars Dr. Jeff Golub-Evans fitted cast members
who had dazzling actor smiles with snap-on “ugly teeth.” These
teeth were mismatched, ill shaped, overlapping, or spaced too
far apart, to resemble those more befitting of Huck Finn and his
backwoods posse.
The good news is that no one who can afford it has to suffer
from ugly teeth syndrome anymore. If you haven’t had the good
fortune to inherit a great set of choppers, you can buy them. It’s
the American way. And if you have great teeth but they have lost
their brightness and whiteness over the years (as they tend to
do), you can get them bleached. I don’t understand why some
women think nothing of dropping big bucks on, say, liposuction
but blanch at investing in cosmetic dental work. This doesn’t
make any sense. A great smile is a must-have if you want to look
ten years younger.
