A typical Dutch late-autumn evening . Outside is raining and that nostalgic smell of winter can be recognized in the air . I am just about to try some traditional Brazilian food , as my Brazilian friend , Matheus Longhini , takes out of the oven some Pão de Queijo . When I ask what exactly it is , he says “ Oh , you will love it – these are cheese bread puffs – crispy on the outside and soft and melting on the inside .” And he was right , they are amazing .
So , here we are , eating and talking about the story of how one talented second-year student at Breda University found his passion , or more precisely - how his passion found him . Born in Sao Paolo , which is one of the biggest cities in Brazil , Matheus always felt that he didn ’ t quite fit there . He wanted more . He wanted to explore . He wanted adventures , travels and art . When he was 19 , after trying out studies which he didn ’ t really like , Matheus decided to leave and head to Europe , following his German and Italian roots . For a while , he lived in Dublin and then moved to a small town in the south of Italy . During his time there , he had to face the question that terrifies every young person – what is he going to do with his life ? Where will he go ? But destiny knows its job and always has a plan for us .
Matheus ’ Italian landlord turned out to be a keen artistic digital photographer , who had cameras everywhere in his house . Once , Matheus saw a film camera and the photographer encouraged him to take a picture with it , which made a great impression on him . It introduced Matheus to the other side of photography – the one which can share meaningful concepts and n-depth stories .
“ Photography was always there , but Italy was the pivot point .” says Matheus

Thinking about his future and wandering around the small meandering streets of Italy ’ s artsy cities , Matheus decided that his next adventure will be to go to the Netherlands , where he found the Creative Business program at Breda University , which suited his interests perfectly . Excited and enthusiastic about the new chapter that he was starting , one plane flight and two suitcases later , he found himself at the train station of Amsterdam .
