Grain Belt Canvasette ’ s
What are they ? What are they worth ?
By Tom Terwilliger & Fert Faust
In this article we ’ ll be discussing and analyzing the Grain Belt Canvasette . I have recruited Fert Faust to help with this article as he ’ s very well versed in these pieces . His dad owned a Grain Belt distributorship in Brainerd , MN .
As a well known Grain Belt collector I often get people asking me about various Grain Belt breweriana . I don ’ t hold myself out as the leading authority on Grain Belt but I have managed to store up some knowledge on the brand and the brewerianna for this ledgendary Minnesota beer .
Suffice it to say I ’ ve had a love-hate relationship with the Canvasette over the years of collecting . Some of them are very cool ! Some of them are just plain lame . Some are reproductions of painted artwork and most are photographs .
People often send me a photo of one and want to know it ’ s value . Most of them are not really valueable and most are pretty common .
Prices in my humble opinion for average condition canvasette ’ s range from $ 20 and a couple of the really desirable ones may top out between $ 200 and maybe $ 300 . On average for one with desirable graphics an average price of $ 50 to $ 60 is appropriate . I am fully aware there ’ s a lot of insanity in the brewerianna world with prices . Price guides can never keep up . But I will offer my opinion on values and you can take it from there . I will also give my ranking of these signs based on their artistic worth and scarcity or over abundance of each piece .
This again is my opinion and Fert will contribute his knowledge to inform you about these pieces and how they were used . Next up is Fert ’ s explanation of what they are and a little history .
